In Philipians 4:11-13, NKJV, Paul explains the following:
“Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content. I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”.
1. Contentment definition per Merriam Webster’s Dictionary, ” the quality or state of being contented”
Contented definition per Merriam Webster’s Dictionary, “feeling or showing satisfaction with one’s possessions, status, or situation”.
2. Abased definition per Merriam Webster’s Dictionary, “formal: to lower in rank, office, prestige, or esteem”
3. Abound definition per Merriam Webster’s Dictionary, “to be present in large numbers or in great quantity to be prevalent”
3A. Prevalent definition per Merriam Webster’s Dictionary, “generally or widely accepted, practiced, or favored”
In my previous post on BibleandCake, I shared that it is so important to look back at God’s word for wisdom, direction, discernment, questions & answers. When we feel inadequate, stressed, sad, joyful, depressed, or elated, we should still go back to the Bible. Whatever state we are in we should always go back to our relationship with Jesus. Paul shares the above verse and I wrote the definitions for each. I could spend quite some time on this verse but I am not today. I wanted to list the definitions for you though. I hope it will be helpful for some extra bible study.
However, despite whatever situation Paul was placed in, he concludes with where it all stems= Jesus. He received all his strength, worth, and identity in Jesus Christ. ( I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me, Philippians 4:13, NKJV).
Let’s do the SAME. Let’s look at all God has done for us. Let’s count our blessings. Let’s Praise through our difficult times, uncomfortable moments, and dark situations. Always lean into Jesus. He is here for you. He is here for US! Do not let your situations define you. Do not look to others and compare yourself. Be content in whatever you are in and continue to look at the Lord Jesus.
