Jesus, Marriage and Mamahood

God's Word

“Who do you represent”? Thankful for the missed opportunity.

  1. Be careful what you put your worth in.

” I want you to represent me and my company in New York City”. Those were the words coming from a stranger at the Tysons Corner Galleria Mall in Tysons Corner Virginia. Several years ago, I was sitting in the common area waiting for my ride after spending the weekend with girlfriends. I noticed a gentleman staring at me while conversing on the phone in the common area. It was making me uncomfortable. I started moving around in the chair and I believe he caught on. He paused in his conversation and apologized, stating “I am sorry to keep looking over but you are very beautiful and I want you to represent me and my company in New York City”. Now, I was flattered especially being called “beautiful” while being hung over from the weekend. He stated he wanted to grab my contact information after his call. I acknowledged him and observed him move over to another area in the common space to finish his phone call.

I continued to scroll through my phone when I looked up and observed two beautiful, dolled-up women pass with several gentlemen. They all looked to be very wealthy. The gentleman who spoke to me earlier joined them and walked away. He turned around and stated, ” wait right here, I will be right back to grab your contact information”.

Well, I waited. I waited for about 15 minutes because not only was it pleasing to be called “beautiful” but those women I observed are what most women in this world “desire to be”. I couldn’t wait much longer as my ride arrived so I left.

2. Who do you represent?

At that time, I was not a follower of Jesus. I thought I was. You can refer back to My Story https://bibleandcake.com/unhealthy-relationships/, https://bibleandcake.com/unanswered-prayers/ To hear a stranger say ” I want you to represent me…” was comforting, and exciting. Again, it was like I had the opportunity to be ” filled” with something that only Jesus could fill. We all want that. We all want to feel wanted, loved, adored, and valued. When I heard those words and stayed waiting for that man to return, I was hoping something would come from it.

Now, as I am a born-again believer in Jesus, I am thankful that this door was closed. Who knows who that person was and how that relationship would have blossomed?

Today, I represent a follower of Jesus. Am I perfect? No. I am a sinner saved by grace! I mess up every day but I know that Jesus loves me, he loves you.

I want to share some verses that were laid on my heart as I reflected on this past encounter:

In the book of Ephesians 5:8-11, NKJV, ” For we were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness and truth). Finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness but rather expose them.”

Ephesians 5:1, NKJV, ” Therefore be imitators of God as dear children”.

Philippians 3:18, NKJV, ” For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ”.

Proverbs 31:30, NKJV, ” Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, But a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised….”

I do not know what that man meant by ” represent me”.

Praise the Lord for that!
