How to find rest in the Lord when you have MOM BURNOUT

What is “Mom Burnout”?

So mommas, this one is for you. This one post is for anyone who knows a momma. Let’s always be praying for each other. Other mothers who may be struggling or tired with the demands of caregiving. So what is this called…” the burnout”….Merriam Webster Dictionary defines burnout as “exhaustion of physical or emotional strength or motivation usually as a result of prolonged stress or frustration”. This goes with being a caretaker, a mother of children. It is real. Being a mother is such a blessing and great reward. However, it can be very stressful but in this post we will find that God gives us mothers all we need to sustain that strength in Him. I hope to share a few ways we can go to the Lord Jesus and know we are okay when the seasons burn us out.

10 Signs you may be experiencing Mom burnout:

Constant exhaustion

Feeling emotionally numb

Irritability and impatience

Loss of joy in motherhood

Feeling like you’re failing

Withdrawing from family and friends

Neglecting your relationship with God

Physical symptoms of stress

Difficulty concentrating

Feeling overwhelmed by everyday responsibilities

Why do many moms feel burned out????

Many mothers are comparing themselves to others on social media. Most of the stuff posted is EDITED and not real. (AI) You find a lot of causes with the overwhelming schedules families have. Try your best to cut BACK and learn to say NO. Your children cannot be involved in every sport every month, and that is OKAY. The mental load of being a mother is a lot, but do not let the evil one, SATAN, deter you here. This is very important to understand. You are worthy, and you are capable of being the best mother the Lord has created you to be, so do not let lies or people tell you otherwise. Also, do not associate or listen to those who MINIMIZE your role as a mother…” oh she does not do much, she has help, she is a stay at home mother, she has alot of money so she must be perfect, her kids are perfect, “John” is a good kid so they must have no tantrums, her husband does the dishes for her so she doesnt have to do much. Did you just read all of that????? Do not listen to the birds. People will be jealous, and they should be removed when they deter you; this can include family, too. You are doing a great job whether you work or stay at home. If you work outside of the home, review your priorities and maybe cut back on some things that will help minimize the stress. If you stay at home or work part-time in or out of the home- SAME THING. Evaluate your priorities. Sometimes, just moving things around can do a lot for a mother and her family.

Furthermore, (if you are new here), I used to work outside of the home as a Police Officer/Detective and have young children. I was “on call” and had a large caseload. It was very hard, and things were neglected- never did I neglect my marriage or babies, BUT I was able to “manage” it for a few years with God guiding me. He closed many doors and opened doors for me in the workforce and our home. I want to encourage you- I stayed close to the Lord and knew which direction to go, and obtained the wisdom a mother needs so much. You can too. In addition, many mothers are burned out because of unrealistic expectations. Again, you can say NO. You cannot do everything even if you want to. Your works( the more you do) will NOT get you brownie points. Just relax and “try” another time when things slow down.

What does the Bible say about rest?

Rest was God’s design from the beginning. “And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done.”Genesis 2:2 (NKJV) God did not rest because He was tired. He established a pattern of work and rest for His creation. Rest reminds us that God is the Provider; we are not sustained by endless striving. One of the most comforting invitations in Scripture is from Jesus Himself. “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”Matthew 11:28–30 (NKJV). Notice that Jesus doesn’t simply promise lighter circumstances. He promises rest for our souls through a relationship with Him. I want to share that rest is an act of trust in God. One of the hardest lessons for many mothers is realizing that everything does not depend on them. Many people want to “control” everything. You cannot. Rest is saying: God is in control. God loves my children more than I do. God is faithful even when I cannot do everything. My worth is found in Christ, not in my productivity.

Mothers!!!! It is not just a matter of cutting back and doing less….it is always about coming to the Lord Jesus when you are down, exhausted, hurt, burnt out, clueless, lonely, lost, empty, helpless, and even joyful and happy. Come to the Lord. He is waiting. Surrender whatever it may be on your heart to Him. Trust me. He will never let you down. “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28 (NKJV).

7 ways to find rest in Jesus Christ as your Lord & Savior

  • Begin each day in prayer
  • Spend time in God’s Word
  • Cast your cares on Him
  • Practice Sabbath rest
  • Accept help with humility
  • Let go of unrealistic expectations
  • Remember your identity is in Christ

Today, give your worries, fears, and exhaustion to Him. Spend time in His Word, seek Him in prayer, and remember that your identity is not found in your performance as a mother but in being His beloved child. His grace is sufficient, His strength is made perfect in our weakness, and His peace is available to every heart that trusts in Him. I appreciate your support with this ministry!
