A question you should ask yourself.
We can all say we are busy and filled with so many things in our life we cannot keep count. Some of us are married. Some of us have children. Some are single. Some are single parents. We are all busy in all different seasons of life. As you can see I have not posted as often as I would like. With the New Year here by the Grace of God, I wanted to share this question I ask frequently: “What is the foundation….?”
Merriam-Webster has the word FOUNDATION with a definition as: the act of founding, the basis as to which something stands or is supported, an underlying base or support, a body or ground upon which something is built up or overlaid and a cosmetic usually used as a base for makeup. When you read these various definitions of one word, I hope this will get you thinking and asking yourself such an important question that can be applied to all areas of your life.
In my walk with the Lord over several years, I have learned many things God has shown me. One important thing is managing my priorities and keeping Him first. I lived a life where Jesus was NOT first and although it was an “okay life”, there was no foundation. There was no purpose. There were more depressing days because of this lifestyle. Nothing filled me or brought me the joy I was looking for in ALL circumstances. We can be “happy” when things are going well and our way. Yet, when my world rocked and things got hard, I heard of a “God”, Jesus Christ. I knew of him, but I did not know Him. I began to seek Him, and when I gave my life to Jesus, repenting and changing the direction I was going, my life changed. I have said it often here on Bibleandcake, this isn’t about religion. This is about a personal relationship with Jesus. The foundation of everything in your life, mother, wife, and you “fill in the blank,” has to have a strong, valid foundation. If the bottom is not strong and reliable, then the structure and everything else will not function for very long. The foundation on all things must be built on Jesus Christ and His word, the Bible. The truth is in the Bible. We have this important Book that is full of life and direction for everything we go through in our life. We will face difficulties. We will go through many trials and errors. We will become hurt by people because they are people. We will lose loved ones. There is sickness, death, evil, and filth. We live in a fallen, broken, sinful world. We are all sinful.

Go back to basics if you need to. That is okay. However, you need to be growing in your walk with the Lord. Your relationship with the Lord. This is not just by going to church and being in a small group. This is not by watching “church online” and checking the boxes. This is all about an ongoing, loving, desireable relationship with Christ. Get rid of ALL things that hinder your walk with the Lord. Get rid of anything that is causing you to NOT read, spend time with loved ones, AND your walk with the Lord….let it GO!
The other day, I was watching a sermon from 2012 by Pastor Jack Hibbs at Calvary Chapel Chino Hills. Crazy how God can work with and in me. I wrote most of this post in January 2025. Anyways, Pastor Jack was talking about abiding in Christ. In the book of John, Chapter 15,….. “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me”. PRETTY CLEAR.
It is a lifestyle. It is the way you live. It’s your choices that stem from your HEART and what your HEART desires. The Bible says in the Book of James 4:8, “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded”.
I wanna leave us with this….let’s take it alittle further……
Have you asked yourself what your marriage is built on?
Have you asked yourself what or who do you look to in making choices for your family with your spouse?
Have you carefully evaluated the choices you make when people are looking or NOT looking? Your integrity?
Have you asked yourself, what is the best way to raise our children? Please do NOT just “wing it”. Put some careful thought into this and know why you and your spouse chose to raise your child or children that way.
Let us start evaluating our hearts. Stop pointing fingers and blaming others and take full resisponsiblity of our choices and life. God wants you and wants to be a part of your life. You can change it around today. You can make a step in the other direction, leaving behind habits, anger, frustration, sadness, guilt, and laziness to seek the Lord.
