Guest Post by my husband, Kevin!
You might be wondering what I mean by the title. Where do I go for what? So, I’m asking where you go for how to live your life.
Still, wondering?
Let me ask you bluntly. Do you go to the world for answers, or do you go to the Word of God?
There is no middle ground to this answer. You’re going to live your life according to what the world says is true or you are going to the Bible for the truth. There are many places to find answers to work, finances, children, and relationships. I can go online right now and find “experts” who wrote a book about every topic I mentioned. I can go to my friends who will give me their best advice. There are many options. These are worldly options. Or I can go to the Word of God and get THE truth on every topic I mentioned and much more. Non-believers will go to the world. There is no other option for them. They don’t know Jesus (Yet hopefully). However, amazingly many Christians go to the world for answers as well. Before going to God’s Word, they go to family, friends, and co-workers.
Why is this?
The Bible is very clear on every topic. Because that is exactly why many don’t go to the Bible. If you read your Bible it’s direct and clear. Many Christians still want to live the way they want. Some will go to church, some will pray, and some will join a small group but how many read their bibles daily? How many want to become more and more like Jesus every day?
Two verses I have consistently read and changed my life are below:
- Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? (Matthew 16:4-24, NKJV)
2. “I am the vine, and you are the branches. He who abides in me, and I in him, bears much fruit; FOR WITHOUT ME YOU CAN DO NOTHING”. (JOHN 15:5, NKJV)
Who is going to reign in your life? How do you treat your wife or husband, how do you speak, what do you listen to (TV, radio, internet), and where do you spend your time? Who has the final say in your life? Jesus or the world. It can’t be both.
Your relationship with Jesus is more important than any relationship you will ever have. Yes, more than your spouse, parents, children, and friends. All He wants is you. He wants to spend time with you. And as you spend time with Him and His Word, He will change you. You’ll soon see that you want Him to have the final word in every area of your life. I pray that He will change all of us daily to be more like Him.
