Why don’t you straighten your hair more often? Does it take too long”?
“Your hair is so big”. I did not know you had that much hair but it is not long, that is too bad”.
” Why can’t black women have long hair?”
“Is that your “real hair”?
All these questions and comments I have encountered plus many more.
My hair is curly and I often wear it in its natural curly state. It is nice to see that everyone does not have to look similar. It is nice to see that not all straight hair is considered better. My hair is curly and black. I have straightened my hair before for a “different look” but I enjoy the curls that God has given me. I love to wear my hair loose yet will receive questions and/or awkward stares. In the past, the above comments would bother me. I would respond “trying” to explain yet later, realizing, I do not need to explain. I do not need to justify how God created me.
I have come to a place in my life to understand and value how the great Creator, God made me. He created me with black curly hair and not permanent long straight hair. He gave me hair that allows me to diversify hairstyles and I am grateful.
Many women struggle with accepting how our good God created them. I pray that we can move from that and embrace our beautiful selves. We have to stop listening to the lies of the EVIL ONE and the lies of this WORLD.
I also pray for those who can be prejudiced towards others because they look different. Yes, because of their hair texture. Society puts so much emphasis on something and the world runs with it. Be you. Be yourself in Christ. Physical beauty and pressure do not need to put you down. Instead, stay focused on God’s word. I say this a lot because apart from Him, you can do nothing…..
” JOHN 15:5, NKJV, ” I am the vine, you are the branches, He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing”.
