It is so cold! I really dislike putting on coats, gloves, hats, thick socks, and all the other accessories that will keep us warm. Getting three young children ready to embrace the cold wind and frigid temperatures removes all the motivation to leave the house. I love being outside and find it important for children to be outdoors as much as possible. However, in this weather, here in Maryland it is very difficult for me.
Let’s not talk about how early it gets dark too. It is awful. Cold and dark. At times, I feel for the babies because if we could we would be outside and doing all of the adventures that we enjoy!
I look at the weather app daily and try to hold onto hope LOL. It looks like it will be “warmer” at least warmer than what we have encountered this season. I get it. It is WINTER and I need to find a way to get over this hump as we live in this area. It ain’t easy!!!!!
As we navigate through this weather here, I do not think you should feel guilty in any way if you just cannot do the active things you enjoy( all because of the cold). It is hard going to the playground in the 30s. We went today and it was fun for the first 15 minutes!!!!! I try to get them outside every day and the backyard is a usual play area but it has some ice and I was not going back there to clean it up just to play for less than 30 minutes!!!!!
Here are a few suggestions that has worked for my family:
- Playdough
- Puzzles
- Drawing and coloring
- Curious George episode
- Playroom
- Personal bedroom quiet time( they each have their own bedroom so I will separate them and have them go to their rooms and play alone for 45 mins or so).
- Indoor snowball fights(bought these snow like balls during Christmas)
- Staring pout the window and talking about how we love the beach and pool together(this is somewhat some therapy for us LOL)
- Dance parties
- Instruments(kiddos love to put on a worship concert)
Please share what works for you and the family!!!!!!! Thank you for being here!!!!!

What other shows/music do you recommend for this mostly “indoors,” part of the season?
