Jesus, Marriage and Mamahood

Marriage/Relationships

What is a friend?

How do you define a friend? What makes a good friend…or a bad friend? These are questions we may come across throughout our life. We lose friends, we gain friends. Sometimes we have many friends in a certain season and then somehow they are no where to be found when we are in a different season. It just happens. It is life.

Let’s take a look in the Bible….

Proverbs 18:24 NKJV- “A man who has friends must himself be friendly, But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother”.

1 Corinthians 15:33 NKJV- “Do not be deceived: Evil company corrupts good habits”.

As a follower of Jesus, we need to pay attention to who we hang out with or invite close to our hearts! It is not the amount of friends we have that we need to worry about. It is the quality.

Over the years, especially when I invited Jesus into my life and my life changed….my “friends” have decreased. This happened because there was no longer a “common factor” between us. Friendships usually stay connected by “something”. There is a commonality in the relationship. The friends I use to have shared similar interests(drinking, promiscuity, gossiping/slander, hanging out with no limits, goals that were not healthy) that I no longer desire after accepting Jesus into my heart.

I want to encourage you to take some time and evaluate those who are close to you. Evaluate yourself as well.

How do you measure a friend? What is a friend? Maybe it is someone who is a text or phone call away but not always able to physically connect!

Maybe it is your spouse!

Someone who is there to join in prayer always!

A person who lives out the Word in their life and also in your friendship!

Proverbs 13:20 NKJV- “Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm”.
