I was strolling through the store and couldn’t help but go towards all the jelly beans and chocolates that are on the shelves. For years, Easter is known for all the candies that will be used to fill the “baskets and plastic eggs”. The jelly beans come in multiple flavors. Many children anticipate receiving the bunny ears and stuffed animals around this time. Honestly, it reminds me of Christmas. When you hear the parents and children make lists for Santa and bake cookies for him. The planned, extravagant dinners, brunches because it is Easter.
Sadly, many do not understand what Easter is about. The Resurrection of our Savior. What He did for us on the cross. What He went through so we can have a union, fellowship, eternal life, and a relationship with Him.
Have you noticed that every “holiday” that has something to do with Jesus is torn apart by commercialized junk? Today, even churches are having “Easter bunnies and Santa Claus” for the children. What happen to Sunday school and opening the Bible and teaching the children?
We as parents have a responsibility and that is to teach our children the truth. I know there are many arguments out here about this and Christmas but to me, it is not an argument. It is the facts. Easter is not about bunnies, chocolates, eggs, and baskets. Children soak things up like a sponge. They are resilient, intelligent people and they understand when you take the time and dedication to teach them something. In my opinion, the Bible should be a priority.
In conclusion, I have learned that many people( “Christians too”) strongly believe a follower of Jesus cannot have fun. I have heard that we are boring, we are “too strict” and we just cannot go with the “flow”. I have to say, since I made the decision to leave a life that was “strict”, painful, unsatisfying, and unfulfilled, I have found true freedom. I have made the decision to follow Jesus and it has been the most fun, free, exciting, sometimes scary(learning to continue to trust Jesus) and fulfilling. I am whole. I pray every day our three children understand their worth and how much they are loved by Jesus. To teach them and hear the questions, excitement, worship, and desire to read God’s Word, is by far, some of the happiest moments we get to share.
John 11:25-26, NKJV: “Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
Luke 24: 1-7, NKJV, “Now on the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they, and certain other women with them, came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared. But they found the stone rolled away from the tomb. Then they went in and did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. And it happened, as they were greatly perplexed about this, that behold, two men stood by them in shining garments. Then, as they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth, they said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee, saying, ‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. ”

Passover and coming together for feast and communion. I myself have foregone the term Easter, Knowing the name stems from mythology. I begin with Palm Sunday reading/study remembering what done for us, as you so eloquently stated in this post. Thank you for sharing this with me.

This time of year is most exciting to me. The importance of remembering what Christ had done for all of us. The love and promise and the gift of the holy spirit, so we my always have a connection to him.
