I use to hate public speaking but when I went to the University of Maryland, College Park(GO TERPS) that was quickly broken. We were constantly speaking in front of large crowds and interacting with people you never met. I was removed out of my comfort zone and this helped with my fear of public speaking.
When I joined the Police Academy, I began to have a lot of anxiety, especially about test taking. We had to obtain a certain score on all exams, including practicals. It was intense and very stressful. Who enjoys exams? Not me. I remember studying all the time and it helped to color code everything. We had assigned seats in the academy but if we did not, I would have taken the front row seat because for some reason if I am close to the instructor and can listen, it eases my anxiousness.
When I graduated from the Police Academy, I had to complete and pass Field Training. That was awful. I had a seasoned police officer next to me for several months running the calls and critiquing everything I did. It is a must as you become a police officer but I remember the awful days and nights that I could not eat because of the anxiety and worry of failing. I was not a follower of Jesus during these times. I knew of Jesus, attended church, and read the Bible sporadically, but my foundation and personal relationship with Jesus were absent.
Whether you are a follower of Jesus or not, you will face worry, fear, and some anxiety. As a mother, worry comes and goes because you just want the best for your babies. However, now when I feel any worry I know where to look. I understand that God does not want us to live this way! I worship when I have any worry or something is burning in my heart. I sit with him, read God’s Word(Bible), and ask for peace through prayer. The Holy Spirit, He is in me and right with me therefore; I know that I will be okay.
I wanted to share 5 of my favorite Bible verses I go to when I feel any type of worry and anxiousness. 1. “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” Philippians 4:6-7, NKJV.
2. “Neither do I concern myself with great matters,
Nor with things too profound for me. Surely I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with his mother; like a weaned child is my soul within me” Psalm 131: 1-2, NKJV.
3. ” The Lord will perfect that which concerns me…..Psalm 138:8, NKJV.
4. “…..casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you”. 1 Peter 5:7, NKJV.
5. “Then He said to His disciples, “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; nor about the body, what you will put on. Life is more than food, and the body is more than clothing…..” Luke 12:22-23, NKJV.
Whatever is on your heart and mind, remember to bring it to the Lord Jesus!
